Stephen
Broad has conducted the Orchestra since 2004.
Stephen grew up on the Isle of Mull. After studying piano at the Music School
of Douglas Academy, Milngavie, he went on to Glasgow University to read music
and physics, graduating in
1997.
Stephen won a major Scottish studentship to write a doctorate on Messiaen at
Worcester College, Oxford and, in 1999, he was appointed conductor of Oxford
University Sinfonietta – the University’s elite chamber orchestra.
In September 2001, Stephen reached the semi-final of the BBC’s Young
Conductors’ Competition in which he directed the BBC Philharmonic. He is now
Research Lecturer at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
